Thurber, James (Grover)
(8 dic. 1894, Columbus, Ohio, EE.UU.–2 nov. 1961, Nueva York, N.Y.).

Escritor y caricaturista estadounidense. Asistió a la Universidad Estatal de Ohio antes de mudarse a Nueva York en 1926. Trabajó para la revista The New Yorker de 1927 a 1933, y posteriormente siguió vinculado a la misma como uno de sus colaboradores más prestigiosos. El mismo ilustró su primer libro, Is Sex Necessary? [¿Es el sexo necesario?] (1929; con E.B. White), y sus caricaturas llegaron a estar entre las más reconocibles en EE.UU. En 1940 una ceguera progresiva comenzó a afectar su labor como dibujante, y hacia 1952 debió abandonarla por completo. Entre sus escritos se cuentan My Life and Hard Times [Mi vida en tiempos difíciles] (1933), Fables for Our Time [Fábulas para nuestros tiempos] (1940) y el libro para niños The 13 Clocks [Los trece relojes] (1950). Entre los personajes que creó se destaca el del perplejo residente urbano que se refugia en la fantasía, como se aprecia en su cuento "La vida secreta de Walter Mitty (1939; película, 1946).
